Wheel excavator - day 2

Upper part still not finished. This time in red, like Doosan model I have on photos. Today only OpenGL and wires because it is almost 2 in the morning and it is too late to render any more complex images, sorry.

Three yellow machines invades desert

Rendered in Lightwave3d on simple flat polygon with ShadowCatcher Node applied. Little color correction.

Telehandler

Fifth model in this project is behind me. Every model is easier to made due to new parts I can copy between them but also due to experience. There are still few hard ones on the list but it will be just day or two more of work. nothing dramatic.

Telehandler - day one

I`m working on this model for few hours now and while it is still look not too interesting it is a core of this type of vehicle. Hard frame for telehandler and attached cabin and engine. I plan to finish arm today with all of the hydraulics and make cabin and missing elements tomorrow. There will be one more update today later.

Track excavator

It is about 393.000 polygons and it is ready.

Next model : Telehandler which looks like this :
Funny little thing, isn't it ?

Track Excavator - day 3

I want to finish it today but I still do not have excavator arm.
About texturing :
I made this two simple textures that will fit all machines since all of them have black and yellow painted elements. Both are projected as cube and don`t use UV at all. Every 3d app have this kind of mapping so it will be no problem to apply this maps after conversion. Adding UV will be overcomplicated in this case.

Dirt on the tracks is done by simple adding one layer of fractal noise with yellowish color on top. ( I created additional surface there, just the tip of the track, on those bars )

Track excavator - day two

Today I plan to make everything except excavator arm. So far I have only this :

Track excavator - day one

Classic excavator that everyone have in mind when hears its name. I just started but it is already 230.000 polygons ! This tracks are as simple as I can get them ( maintaining standards of course ) and when it looks quite clear and easy there is actually a lot of necessary detail. Stay tune. Later today I will update and show what is changing. This is what I have so far :

Useful tip.
There is simple way to animate any track that is made of hard repeatable elements like this one. It is time consuming method but easy from technical point of view. It is based on morphing. In Lightwave You can save any modification of points in the object with in the file as a morph. Every morph point ( state ) can be animated by sliders or envelopes. It is probably the same thing in other apps but I can`t be sure about that.
Simply after You model whole track like this on preview above, You make morph point and copy whole thing to another layer for reference in the background. Now You move every track element in place of previous one like it will be moving in real world. You must do that with every element watching carefully background layer for reference. When done, make another morph point and now by simple loop animation between two morph states You will get smooth animation. Remember that every mistake You do moving elements will result in skipping or shaking of this element while loop ends.

Oh ... I forgot to show You what I`m modeling after all " (photo of course, I`m not that good ...yet : )
Update :
That is it for today. See Ya Tomorrow.

Just finished. Under 200.000 polygons.

Compact track excavator - day 2

After one free day I`m back. Outside there is more and more snow so there is nothing left to but work. It is Sunday and I always have mixed feelings about work in Sunday but not working will be equal to wasting time. So far, after few hours I have everything to start on excavator arms. I think that it will be todays goal to finish is and only thing which will left to do on day 3 will be cabin.

Compact track excavator - day 1

This is small excavator but not the smallest. I will model something like this (PHOTO)  :
This small machine weights 6.5t !!! Take notice that tracks are made from rubber and that this compact models have rotating in 360 degrees kingposts ( part above tracks ) opposite to the mini versions where both tracks and kingposts are fixed. Later, in updates, I will post first renderings of my model.

Backhoe Loader and Excavator

Models in this series will be mostly classic polygon based models. Of course, in the making process, subdivided surfaces are present but for few reasons I freeze them to polygons. Still model contains only quads and triangles. This model contains 362.000 polygons so it is not too heavy for todays standards. You can probably make it even lighter with few simple tricks but for non-problematic conversion I will leave it as it is. Remember that I need to make model without any Lightwave specific tricks and features because it needs to be converted to many different formats. Here are three simple preview renderings:

Next model : Compact Track Excavator. See Ya tomorrow.
